Stephanie Moulton-Peters


Stephanie is a community advocate and environmental consultant with over 20 years of experience. She managed a $25 million environmental regulatory compliance program for a Fortune 500 company, where she also worked in communications. She has consulted to non-profit organizations on a variety of environmental issues including environmental compliance, recycling strategies, waste minimization and habitat restoration. She also previously worked for the National Trust for Historic Preservation in San Francisco.


Over the last 15 years, Stephanie has been deeply involved in her local community as an advocate and volunteer, particularly in the areas of emergency preparedness, environmentalism, and utilizing collaboration to achieve results. As a trained facilitator, she knows how to listen to and inspire people to achieve results.


She served six years on the City’s Emergency Preparedness Committee, twice elected Chairperson. As a result of her leadership, great strides were made in improving the City’s emergency preparedness. Always an innovator, some of the many “firsts” occurring during her leadership include: development of the first strategic plan, creation of the first city-wide communications campaign, launch of an education-oriented website (www.bepreparedMV.org) and development of preparedness classes for individuals, as well as conducting the first evacuation drill in the City’s history. She is also the co-chair of the Mill Valley Middle School Emergency Preparedness Committee, and the leader of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) for her neighborhood of over 800 households.


Stephanie is chairman of the City of Mill Valley’s Safe Routes to School program, which is designed to decrease traffic and pollution and increase the health of children and the community by promoting walking and biking to school. She currently serves as President of the West Blithedale Canyon Neighborhood Association, whose mission is to protect and enhance the quality of life in that neighborhood; to promote emergency preparedness; to assist residents with resolving issues & concerns; and interface with City government to address issues. She was also selected to serve on the Municipal Services Tax Renewal Committee.


Stephanie and her husband, Roger Peters, are 15 year residents of Mill Valley, and their two sons, Steven (12) and Dave (10), attend Mill Valley public schools. She is a graduate of Stanford University, B.A. Program in Human Biology, with an emphasis in environmental policy. Stephanie received certification in Hazardous Waste Management from U.C. Davis and is a graduate of the Environmental Forum of Marin.
